As in previous Ultima games, exploration is split between the upper world locations and first-person 3D dungeons. After the defeat of the evil wizard Mondain and his mistress Minax in the previous two Ultimas, peace has returned to the land of Sorsaria. The game has larger, more detailed cities populated by NPCs with whom the protagonist can converse for clues. The party is created at the beginning of the game by assigning various combinations of classes and determining the attributes of the characters. Later ports for the Macintosh, Atari ST and Amiga with enhanced graphics followed. It was published and released in 1983 by Origin Systems for the Apple II, C64, 8-bit Atari and IBM PC.
